Green Restaurant Initiative

Asheville to be the nation’s Greenest Dining Destination!

On June 16, 2011, BRSI received word that our $258,140 Green Restaurant Initiative proposal to the North Carolina Green Business Fund had been approved in full. As a major component of BRSI’s Regional Energy Upfit Campaign, this initiative will be implemented through a unique partnership with the Asheville Independent Restaurant (AIR) Association to improve the environmental sustainability and economic success of 17 AIR member restaurants.

BRSI is very excited to be part of this initiative.  Read more about the project background here!

These restaurants are working hard to become Green Restaurant Certified.  They not only offer farm to table options, but also have committed to composting, using energy efficient lighting, water conservation training, not using styrofoam containers, and more.  Sundance Power Systems has installed solar thermal panels for hot water use on many of these restaurants.  We hope you will visit these restaurants and support green dining!
